Women’s Only “Shedding the Myths” Group

Begins September 26th, 2016

I’m happy to announce that I’m beginning a new Women’s Only “Shedding the Myths We Grew Up With” Group, based on my recently published book. In case you’re not familiar with the book, here’s a brief description of the book, and the goals for the group:

This book is for anyone who carries negative beliefs, or myths, about themselves. For the majority of us, our myths were absorbed during our early years, and many became so deeply rooted within us that, in adulthood, we usually aren’t able to view ourselves in the absence of them. In a very profound way, they’ve held us back from living our lives with the kind of fullness and confidence that we might’ve experienced had we believed the myths were true.

The purpose of the book, and this subsequent group, is to help set you free from your myths so you can design a life that’s based on the real you, and not on the one that’s lived fearfully, and perhaps with shame, about who you thought you were all along. As a group, I will facilitate the process of working through the program of action that I’ve laid out in the book. It’s worked for many of my clients over the years, and I believe it can work equally well for you.

Why work in a group?

Well, it’s been my experience that doing this sort of personal work in a group setting is ultimately far more effective than in a one-to-one situation. For example, as you work through the exercises, you’ll receive helpful feedback and suggestions from not only myself, but from the others in the group. And, as you get to know the other group members, you’ll likely come to see that the ‘myths’ you’ve been struggling with throughout your lifetime, are shared by many others, and that you’re not alone in feeling the way they’ve caused you to feel over time. And, the most positive part of this entire process is watching how you can begin to lesson – even eliminate – the impact your myths have had on you, and on the decisions you’ve made about yourself and your life.

How many participants?

There will be a maximum of 8 participants in the group, mainly to keep it to a size where members feel comfortable and safe enough to share their own experiences. In this way, it’s possible to get to know others really well, and, as such, you might feel comfortable reaching out beyond the group, if you chose, in order to gain additional support as you continue along the process.

Who can participate?

Women who are interested in doing this kind of work. You must be over the age of 21.

When?

The sessions will take place weekly on Monday evenings at 6:30-8:30pm beginning on September 26th. (There’s a possibility that I might run a separate group on Saturday mornings from 10-12pm. Let me know what group you’d be interested in joining.)

Where?

At my office. See the Contact Me page of this website.

Timeline?

There won’t be an official ‘end’ to the group. Rather, I would ask you to commit to 4 weeks at a time, and at the end of that period, you can either continue (again, for another 4 weeks), or you can step out of the group if you wish. The timing will be entirely up to you. We can discuss this further at our first session, but feel free to send me an email if you have any specific questions regarding this, or about anything else regarding the group.

The cost?

The cost of each session is $90 but, as I mentioned previously, you’ll need to prepay for four sessions. You can pay via Paypal at the bottom of this page.

My individual client sessions are $185/hr (as of November 1st), so this is significantly more cost-effective than seeing me privately. However, please feel free to make an appointment to see me individually throughout (or after) the group if you think it would be helpful to you.

What to do next?

Just send me an email to: Suzanne@stjohnsmith.ca and put “Save me a spot!” in the header.
